Crazy Old Man
Walking on the beach, with a Georgia peach...I see a crazy old man, falling down in the sand...He was up in a flash, to make another smash...In a volley ball game, they were calling his name...You crazy old man!...Do you think you can run the way the young men can?...You'd better go and lie down by the water...And get a tan...you crazy old man...

Dance With You
A north wind from Canada, searched the Dakotas...Then headed to Florida, cooling the night...Misting the surf, as the sun came up slowly...It danced through the palms, in hot light...

A Laid Back Review

John Mayer's folk rock style is influenced by Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, and the Eagles to name a few. He has performed his original style of acoustic guitar, harmonica, and heartfelt vocals all over Canada and the U.S.A.. His songs are thought provoking, humorous, uplifting, sensual and sometimes controversial.

Music became a passion when his grandfather agreed to buy him a guitar and amp instead of an accordion when he was fifteen. He was a salesman even then. The basement bands rocked the house at his parent's home in Scarborough, Ontario for many years. Curious neighbor's daughters would gather by the window and listen to the music, although in those early days music was defined as "four chords at ten decibels". His father's lazy boy shook while he was watching TV upstairs.

Marriage and a beautiful daughter Nicole followed and life became a little too complicated. Too young, too soon, not enough chemistry. Three years later and it was all over. Nicole has been a constant bright light in her father's life ever since and has made him a grandfather three times with Thomas, Hannah and Kathryn. He is truly blessed.

John went on the road as a solo entertainer after the break up. The circuit in Southern Ontario became his home and mentor. It provided the experiences that would allow him to write cynical yet sensitive songs with meaningful messages. In other words he became a Hippie! Patched Levis, a jean jacket and a guitar were all he needed to try and "change the world"  with his music. A&M Records took an interest in his songs but nothing materialized. The Disco era was already happening and folk rock artists were out of the mainstream.

John's focus changed for a while and his daughter was the inspiration for two children's books and four songs. "Tales of Croakanoakio" is a whimsical story about friendship and adventure. Kids just love to sing along to "Eleventy-twelve".

Two wives and several jobs later, it was off to Florida in a motor home and a new beginning amid the Parrot Heads and Conchs. A new CD was born on the beach in Cape Canaveral. "Surfside"  is a crossover collection of well written and inspired songs that make you feel good while still delivering a message. A second CD is in the works.

John spent fifteen years as a "Snowbird" in Florida and has now made Cape Canaveral his permanent home. On Mar. 30, 2007, he married his American life partner Marla and they couldn't be happier. The Space Shuttle rattles their windows when it takes off, bike riding on the beach is a favorite pastime, and the laid back lifestyle suits them perfectly. Writing music and performing are a large part of his life, and he entertains whenever possible. He is now a Licensed Florida Realtor in Cocoa Beach. Life is Good!
