Guitars, Girls and Deja Vu

By John A. Mayer | 2583 words

   Guitars, Girls and Deja Vu

 I was no different than most musicians in the seventies. All I wanted was to change the world with my words and music. From broken down taverns to Holiday Inns, my guitar and harmonica echoed the dreams of a generation. All I needed was a t-shirt, a jean jacket, patched Levi's, and wheels. This collection of letters tells the story of a 3000-mile road trip from Canada to Florida and back. I was a 27 year-old traveler who needed to see what more the planet offered beyond the Key West sunset while digging for 25 million-year-old shark teeth along the way. Read on

The Toronto skyline looked inviting from the air. Lake Ontario danced as the sunrise reflected on the water. It was good to be home. I had been playing my guitar on the road for two years now and it was starting to get old. Maybe it was time to abandon this crazy dream of stardom and get a real job, I thought. The jet banked hard to the right and began it's descent. Read on

Revues:

From the Indie Journal;

"Musician/writer John A. Mayer has published a unique story composed of a series of letters. The Trip from Canada to Florida and Back will have you engrossed from the first line".

From Nicholas DeAngelis; editor, Melange Magazine

"I truly enjoyed the story; your writing style features active descriptions and has mellow flow that enhances the subject matter nicely. The lyric insertions are a fine touch, too. Being an avid music fan myself and a former college DJ, I can truly appreciate complementary components of story and song".

Revues:

"Fast-paced and entertaining. Nice flow. Nice work. Keep on truckin'". John McAleenan (1933-2002).
Pulitzer Prize nominee and Florida Today Newspaper columnist.

"Put it before them briefly so they will read it,
clearly so they will appreciate it,
picturesquely so they will remember it and,
above all,
accurately so they will be guided by its light."
